Welcoming the 2026/2027 Liga 1 season, Persebaya Surabaya has taken a progressive step by integrating sports science technology into the team's preparation program. The club nicknamed Bajul Ijo is now utilizing VALD Performance equipment, a cutting-edge physical analysis system commonly used by top European teams, to map out each player's physical condition in detail and objectively.
The testing process, which took place at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, Surabaya, on Thursday (July 9, 2026), was directly observed by Persebaya CEO, Azrul Ananda. This initiative is a continuation of the club's commitment following an integrated medical check-up with Mayapada Hospital. With this data integration, management hopes that training programs, injury prevention strategies, and individual performance development can be designed more accurately and measurably.
Azrul Ananda emphasized that investment in supporting infrastructure, including gym facilities and sports science devices, is part of the club's long-term vision. According to him, the use of this technology will serve as a solid foundation for Persebaya in designing game strategies and a more consistent player evaluation system to achieve the championship target in the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, Persebaya Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Pratama Wicaksana Widjaja, Sp.OT(K), explained that the data generated by VALD Performance serves as a specific profile for each athlete. This information provides crucial guidance for the physical coaching staff and medical team in structuring training loads tailored to each player's biological needs. The use of this technology also aligns with the trend of professional football development in Indonesia, where similar systems are being adopted by the national team as a new standard for monitoring player fitness at the highest competition level.
