The intensive search efforts for two teenagers from Krinjing Hamlet, Wonosobo Regency, namely Arifin Nurohmat (18) and Yufaidin (15), finally reached a breakthrough that left their families in deep grief. After being declared missing for nearly two weeks, their bodies were found in a steep valley in the Curug Tiga area of Mount Bismo on Sunday (12/7/2026).
This tragic incident began on June 30, 2026, when the two teenagers left home without permission. Their lack of logistics and hiking gear triggered great concern from their families and local residents. An official report was subsequently filed with the Wonosobo SAR team following the failure of independent searches conducted by residents on the mountain slopes.
A large-scale search operation was immediately activated, deploying over 250 joint personnel consisting of Basarnas, BPBD, TNI, Polri, and volunteer communities. Given the dense vegetation and steep terrain, rescue authorities even deployed advanced technology in the form of thermal drones and tracking dog (K9) units to search areas hard to reach by human sight.
Although standard SAR operating regulations initially limited the search duration to seven days, the rescue team's commitment was reinforced with a three-day extension of their duty, along with assistance from expert personnel from the Semarang SAR Office. Throughout the search period, grief enveloped the victims' family home as they anxiously awaited news about the fate of their sons.
A breakthrough finally emerged on Sunday afternoon, when a joint team of residents and Wanadri found the victims' bodies at the bottom of the Curug Tiga ravine. Given the extreme evacuation terrain, the SAR team had to use vertical rescue techniques to lift the bodies from the depths of the valley. Based on field findings, it is highly suspected that both victims fell into the ravine, bringing an end to the long search that had captured widespread public attention over the past two weeks.
