Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has officially initiated a strategic collaboration with South Korean technology company, Stellarvision, to develop technology for detecting underground water pipe leaks. The cooperation, formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a Proof of Concept (PoC) agreement, aims to create solutions to the challenges of water resource loss due to pipe leaks that are difficult to detect conventionally.

UGM Vice Rector for Research, Business Development, and Cooperation, Dr. Danang Sri Hadmoko, welcomed this synergy. He emphasized that the partnership is a concrete step by UGM in presenting technological innovations capable of supporting sustainable water resource management in Indonesia. This research project is also supported by the role of UGM alumni who are now working as professionals at Stellarvision.

In its implementation, both parties will utilize Stellarvision's Fluidvision technology, which is based on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite imagery. This technology will be tested at the UGM Agrotechnology Innovation Center (PIAT) testbed facility in Sleman, through controlled pipe leak simulations conducted over the next six months.

Beyond the technical aspects, UGM guarantees that the entire research process will be conducted with high standards of professionalism. The primary focus includes the protection of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and data confidentiality in accordance with internal university regulations and applicable laws. The success of this initiative is expected to provide more effective and efficient water infrastructure maintenance methods for the wider community.
