The government has officially commenced the construction of a Regional Public Hospital (RSUD) in the Bukit Tengah area of Kerinci Regency, Jambi. This step is a strategic effort to address the local community's urgent need for closer and more affordable healthcare facilities.
The Governor of Jambi, Al Haris, alongside the Regent of Kerinci, Monadi, laid the groundbreaking stone to mark the start of this healthcare infrastructure project. The development is the result of intensive coordination between the regional government and the Ministry of Health, following the fact that Kerinci Regency has not had its own independent hospital facility since its administrative separation from Sungai Penuh City in 2008.
"The presence of the RSUD in Bukit Tengah is expected to shorten the healthcare access routes that have long burdened residents. Additionally, we aim to reduce the rate of patient referrals to outside regions, so that residents no longer need to travel far to Jambi City or neighboring provinces," said Al Haris during a site visit on Sunday (5/7).
The project is funded by a budget of IDR 137.5 billion from the State Budget (APBN), with an additional investment of over IDR 50 billion specifically allocated for the procurement of state-of-the-art medical equipment. The government targets to complete all construction and medical support equipment installation by December 2026, allowing full operations to begin in early 2027.
RSUD Kerinci is designed as a type C hospital that will be equipped with flagship service facilities, such as a hemodialysis (kidney dialysis) unit, a cardiac center, and chemotherapy. Regarding the fulfillment of medical personnel, the regional government has prepared a development scheme through specialist medical education programs to ensure optimal service quality when the hospital officially opens.
