The presence of a temporary waste collection site (TPS) within the Dadaha Sports Complex area, Tasikmalaya City, has once again triggered strong protests from the public. The location of the waste disposal facility at the heart of this public space is considered highly contradictory to its function as a center for physical activity and family recreation.
A number of residents feel that the presence of the waste site has reduced the city's aesthetic quality and visitors' comfort. In addition to the pungent foul odor, there are concerns that the piles of garbage in this strategic area compromise the hygiene of nearby food vendors and damage Tasikmalaya City's image in the eyes of visitors.
The Mayor of Tasikmalaya, Viman Alfarizi Ramadhan, expressed his support for the residents' aspirations regarding the relocation of the TPS. He emphasized that the position of the waste facility adjacent to the sports area and culinary center is no longer appropriate. However, relocation efforts are currently hampered by the difficulty of finding adequate replacement land with clear ownership status.
As a short-term solution, the Tasikmalaya City Environmental Agency (DLH) has been instructed to optimize garbage collection frequency. This step is being taken to minimize the accumulation of stagnant waste so that odor pollution can be controlled while the government conducts an in-depth study on relocation options to a new site.
Previously, plans to relocate several TPS in Tasikmalaya, including in the Empangsari area, had been placed on the local government's agenda. Although the Environmental Agency has declared its readiness to execute the move, technical processes still require deep evaluation regarding permits and the status of the land to be used as a replacement waste collection site.
