The General Chairman of the Central National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI), Retired Lieutenant General Marciano Norman, officially inaugurated H. Agustiar Sabran as the General Chairman of the Executive Board of the All Indonesia Chess Association (PB Percasi) for the 2026–2030 term. The solemn inauguration ceremony was held at the Mulia Senayan Hotel on Sunday (27/7/2026), marking a new chapter for chess management in the country.
In his speech, Marciano Norman expressed deep appreciation for PB Percasi's dedication to nurturing national chess athletes, enabling them to achieve outstanding success, including at the PON XXI/2024 Aceh-North Sumatra. He also ensured that chess will continue to be featured in various upcoming national multi-sport events, such as the 2027 Indoor National Sports Week (PON) and the XXII/2028 PON to be held in NTT-NTB.
According to Marciano, chess is not just a game of strategy, but an important instrument in building the character of the younger generation, enabling them to think tactically and visionarily. He highlighted concrete evidence of Indonesia's international chess achievements, such as winning one gold, two silver, and four bronze medals at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, as well as dominating with four gold medals at the 2025 East Asian Youth Chess Championship (EAYCC) in Zhuhai, China.
Meanwhile, the elected General Chairman of PB Percasi, Agustiar Sabran, emphasized the importance of the values of unity contained in sports. He stated his commitment to continuing the success of the previous administration, which produced many Grandmasters. As a concrete step forward, he plans to establish a chess school to scout and nurture top talents from an early age.
Agustiar is optimistic that with chessboards being highly accessible to the public and a strong will, this sport can grow rapidly in all corners of the country. He invited all members of the board to collaborate to make Indonesia proud on the world stage while strengthening national brotherhood through this mind sport.
