The Indonesian government is strategically utilizing the INNOPROM 2026 event in Yekaterinburg, Russia, to strengthen industrial diplomacy in the bioenergy sector. During the forum titled Palm Oil and the Future of Sustainable Energy held on Thursday (9/7/2026), the Indonesian delegation presented advancements in innovation and future investment potential in the development of palm oil derivatives.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated that Indonesia is determined to become a major pioneer in the energy transition through the downstreaming of the palm oil industry. This step aims not only to strengthen the national economy but also to position the palm oil commodity as an answer to global challenges regarding sustainable energy security.
One of the main focuses highlighted in the forum was the implementation of the B50 biodiesel mandate, which takes effect in July 2026. This policy requires a 50 percent blend of palm-based biofuel, projected to reduce dependence on imported fossil energy while significantly lowering carbon emissions.
The Director General of KPAII at the Ministry of Industry, Tri Supondy, emphasized that the transformation of Indonesia's palm oil industry has moved beyond being just an export commodity. Through various supporting programs such as smallholder plantation rejuvenation and the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certification, Indonesia demonstrates its readiness to meet global sustainability standards in front of industrial stakeholders in Eurasia.
Echoing this sentiment, the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDPKS) is optimistic that the integration between biodiesel technology and the national energy transition agenda will unlock mutually beneficial cooperation opportunities. The forum, attended by more than 100 industry leaders, is expected to serve as a bridge for technology exchange and strategic investment between Indonesia and Russia in the future.
