The Malinau Regency Government continues its commitment to advancing rural areas by stimulating creativity, innovation, and utilizing technology relevant to the needs of the local community. This strategic step was reaffirmed through the holding of the regency-level Appropriate Technology (TTG) Competition, which serves as a platform for the birth of innovations based on local potential.

Acting Regional Secretary of Malinau Regency, Agustinus, who attended on behalf of the Regent of Malinau, Wempi W. Mawa, explained that the essence of appropriate technology is not merely creating new devices. More than that, this technology must serve as a concrete solution to various challenges faced by rural communities daily.

According to Agustinus, highly useful technology is technology that is simple, easy to apply, safe, and environmentally friendly. By optimizing existing local potential, these innovations are expected to boost work productivity, add value to village commodities, and ultimately improve the economic well-being of the residents.

On that occasion, he also encouraged all stakeholders, starting from regional apparatus, sub-district and village governments, academics, to the private sector, to work in synergy to strengthen the Appropriate Technology Service Post (Posyantek). This institution is considered crucial as a center for innovation incubation at the village level.

Malinau Regency itself has an impressive track record on the national stage in the field of rural innovation. In 2018, Malinau succeeded in winning Second Place Nationally in the TTG Competition representing North Kalimantan Province. This achievement became even more brilliant in 2024 with the success of Posyantek Karya Mandiri of Sempayang Village in winning First Place Nationally in the Posyantek category.

The local government hopes that this brilliant achievement can boost the motivation of competition participants to continue generating new applicable ideas. The courage to try and perseverance in developing simple ideas are believed to be the keys to the birth of major innovations that have a real impact on society.
