Universitas Airlangga (Unair) has once again reaffirmed its commitment to the international arena through the organization of the Sustainable Energy and Green Technology Applications (SEGTA) 2026 program. Initiated by the Faculty of Advanced Technology and Multidisciplinary (FTMM), this annual agenda combines eco-friendly technological innovation with cross-border community service as a tangible realization of the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tridarma Perguruan Tinggi).
Rector of Unair, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Madyan, S.E., M.Si., M.Fin., explained that this program is designed to deliver concrete positive impacts for the global community. This collaboration brings together Unair students with foreign students from various countries, such as France, Pakistan, Thailand, China, and Hong Kong, to formulate solutions for environmental issues faced by local residents.
Furthermore, the rectorate hopes that similar programs can be adopted by other faculties within Unair to ensure a more even distribution of the campus's internationalization efforts. In addition to SEGTA, Unair is also actively initiating other global-scale programs, such as International Community Service (KKN) in Australia, Japan, Malaysia, and Taiwan.
Dean of FTMM Unair, Prof. Dr. Ir. Retna Apsari, M.Si., IPM., ASEAN Eng., explained that the main focus of SEGTA this year is directed towards Gili Iyang Island, Sumenep Regency. At this location, participants collaborate with the local community to implement clean energy systems, provide education on solar energy utilization, and preserve the local ecosystem.
Entering its third year of implementation, SEGTA has proven to be an effective medium for foreign students to learn about local culture while contributing their technological expertise. This step is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targets in accelerating the transition to clean energy and strengthening global partnerships.
