The Communication and Information Department (Diskominfo) of Kutai Barat Regency has officially established a strategic partnership with SMK Negeri 1 Linggang Bigung. This step was realized through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) which took place at the Diskominfo Office, Kutai Barat, on Wednesday (8/7/2026).
This synergy aims to bridge the gap between the vocational education curriculum and the rapid development of digital transformation across various sectors. Both institutions agreed to provide broader access to technology-based learning for students, so they are better prepared to face the challenges of an increasingly digitized workforce.
The Principal of SMKN 1 Linggang Bigung, Luspia Simarmata, emphasized that modern education can no longer focus solely on classroom theory. According to her, students need direct exposure to the implementation of digital technology to build strong competitiveness before entering the professional world or continuing their education to a higher level.
As a concrete manifestation of this collaboration, both parties have drawn up a series of comprehensive agendas. The program includes digital literacy education, technical training, skills mentoring, and capacity building aimed at both students and educators at the school.
Meanwhile, the Head of Kutai Barat Diskominfo, Yuli Permata Mora, emphasized that the local government has a moral responsibility to foster capable digital talents. Yuli added that the success of digital transformation is not measured solely by physical infrastructure development, but also by the readiness of human resources capable of utilizing technology productively and responsibly.
Through this partnership, the local government holds high hopes that vocational schools in Kutai Barat can transform into centers for digital talent development. This cross-sectoral synergy is expected to minimize the competence gap among graduates, aligning them with industry needs and digital-based governance.
