PT PLN (Persero) in collaboration with the PLN Institute of Technology (IT PLN) is organizing a renewable energy technology training program for hundreds of high school (SMA) students in various regions of Indonesia. This Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program aims to prepare the younger generation to face the global energy transition era in order to achieve the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target.
The intensive training, taking place from July to August 2026, was attended by more than 250 students from grades XI and XII representing seven leading schools. The participants were equipped with knowledge on operating Solar Power Plants (PLTS) and technology utilizing waste as alternative energy or Waste to Energy (WTE). The participating schools include SMA Taruna Nusantara Magelang, SMA Gama Yogyakarta, SMA Taruna Brawijaya, SMAN 1 Binjai, SMAN 4 Medan, SMAN 5 Surabaya, and SMAN 94 West Jakarta.
PLN Director of Legal and Human Capital Management, Nurlely Aman, explained that accelerating the clean energy transition relies not only on physical infrastructure development but also on developing human resource quality from an early age. Through this education, PLN wants to instill theoretical understanding as well as practical skills so that students can apply environmentally friendly technology in their surroundings.
In line with this, Vice Rector IV for Cooperation at IT PLN, Ahsin Sidqi, explained that the training was designed comprehensively. In the initial phase, students are introduced to the vast potential of solar energy in Indonesia, followed by waste processing into high-value resources to build national energy independence starting from the grassroots level.
This educational program is structured in four systematic stages, starting from classroom training (In Class Training), independent project practicums, periodic evaluations, to the preparation of final reports. To support sustainable learning, PLN also donated educational solar power units, Black Soldier Fly (BSF) cultivation kits for organic waste, and tools for making aromatherapy candles from maggots as a tangible form of circular economy education in schools.
The Principal of SMA Taruna Nusantara, Major General (TNI) Muhammad Imam Gogor, appreciated this initiative as it provides applicable insights for both students and teachers. The school is committed to integrating this solar power and waste management material into co-curricular activities so that knowledge of the energy transition can be sustainably passed down to the next generation.
