The hiking trail of Mount Dempo in Pagar Alam City, South Sumatra, has now been declared safe again after a joint SAR team successfully secured a hiker with the initials RD. The man from Lahat Regency had previously sparked great concern among nature lovers by carrying a weapon and making threats of violence.
According to an official statement from the Mount Dempo Registration Office (BRIGADE), this tense incident began early last week. RD was reported to be hiking while carrying an air rifle. Not only that, he also repeatedly issued provocative statements threatening the safety of others under the pretext of looking for human sacrifices among hikers from Palembang City.
Responding to the report, a joint team consisting of BRIGADE, Basarnas, BPBD, TNI, Tagana, volunteers, and family representatives immediately moved quickly to conduct a sweep. RD was eventually found in good physical condition and was cooperative, allowing the evacuation down the mountain to proceed smoothly without resistance.
After being brought down safely to the foot of the mountain, relevant authorities decided not to pursue legal action. RD was immediately handed over to his family for more intensive medical treatment and care. With the completion of this evacuation process, the management assures that the Mount Dempo hiking trail is now completely safe and conducive for visitors again.
