South Lampung - Volcanic activity of Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait, South Lampung Regency, has reportedly increased again. The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) recorded that this active volcano experienced 19 eruptions between June 2 and July 11, 2026, with its status remaining at Level III (Alert).
Head of the Mount Anak Krakatau Monitoring Post in Hargopancuran, Rajabasa District, Suwarno, explained that intensive monitoring continues around the clock. This monitoring includes both visual and instrumental observations to anticipate fluctuations in the volcano's activity, which could change significantly at any time.
Based on monitoring equipment recordings, seismic activity and volcanic emissions are still being detected with dynamic intensity. The increase in activity since early July formed a strong basis for the Geological Agency to raise the volcano's hazard status from Level II (Advisory) to Level III (Alert).
Anticipating the potential danger of incandescent material ejection, PVMBG issued a firm recommendation for the public, fishermen, and tourists. All parties are strictly prohibited from engaging in any activities within a safe radius of two kilometers from the active crater of Mount Anak Krakatau.
Additionally, fishermen crossing the waters of the Sunda Strait are urged to constantly monitor weather developments and volcanic activity before deciding to head out to sea. The public is also asked to remain calm and not easily believe misleading rumors that do not originate from official releases of authorized agencies.
