Mount Anak Krakatau has shown renewed volcanic activity on Wednesday (7/8/2026). Based on data from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), the volcano erupted three consecutive times at 08:42 WIB, 09:35 WIB, and 09:54 WIB.
Visual observations showed a dense black ash column rising up to 100 meters above the peak, or approximately 257 meters above sea level. The dispersal of volcanic material was observed drifting toward the northwest.
To date, Mount Anak Krakatau's status remains at Level III (Standby). The PVMBG has strongly recommended that local residents, tourists, and climbers refrain from engaging in any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the active crater to avoid unwanted risks.
In response to the situation, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Banten Province assured that conditions along coastal areas such as Anyer, Carita, and Tanjung Lesung beaches remain under control. The Head of BPBD Banten, Lutfi Mujahidin, urged the public to stay calm and not cancel their vacation plans.
Lutfi emphasized that the current eruption is on a small scale and remains safe for the tourism sector. Given that the distance between the volcano and the coastline is approximately 40 kilometers, he assured that tourism activities in Banten can continue while prioritizing vigilance.
