Volcanic activity at Mount Semeru, located on the border of Lumajang and Malang Regencies in East Java, has been observed to increase once again. On Tuesday (30/6/2026) afternoon, the highest volcano on the island of Java was reported to have erupted, spewing volcanic ash into the air.
According to an official report from the Mount Semeru Observation Post, the eruption occurred precisely at 13:04 WIB. The ash column was observed rising to a height of approximately 900 meters above the peak, equivalent to 4,576 meters above sea level.
Sigit Rian Alfian, an officer on duty at the observation post, confirmed the incident in a written report. As of this reporting, authorities continue to monitor the volcano's activity to ensure the safety of residents living around its slopes.
