Management of TikTok and Tokopedia Group has officially denied rumors regarding mass layoffs affecting the company following the integration of the two e-commerce platforms. Reports claiming a workforce reduction of up to 90 percent were confirmed to be untrue.

Executive Director of Tokopedia and TikTok E-commerce Indonesia, Stephanie Susilo, explained that the steps currently being taken by the company are merely an organizational restructuring. According to her, the process involves an internal mobility mechanism, where employees are given the opportunity to move to other business units within the group in accordance with evolving organizational needs.

"There are no layoffs at TikTok or Tokopedia Group. What exists is workforce restructuring and internal mobilization efforts," Stephanie said in Jakarta on Monday (6/7/2026). She added that for some employees, the company did offer compensation packages as an option, but many continue to be funneled into other business lines that require talent.

Responding to the controversy that caught public attention and labor authorities, Minister of Manpower Yassierli received a direct explanation from TikTok Group management. The meeting, facilitated by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, resulted in an understanding that the internal transfer scheme serves as a solution to provide career certainty for workers.

On the other hand, the operations of the combined entity are claimed to remain on a growth trajectory. As tangible proof, TikTok Group is currently opening around 100 new job positions for the Indonesian market. This serves as a strong signal that the company remains committed to business sustainability and expansion amidst the ongoing internal transition process.
