The South Lampung Regency Government (Pemkab) has taken proactive steps in response to the increased volcanic activity of Mount Anak Krakatau. Through the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the local government held a cross-sector coordination meeting to ensure that disaster mitigation strategies run in a measured and effective manner to safeguard coastal residents.
Head of the Mount Anak Krakatau Monitoring Post, Andi Suwardi, provided technical explanations regarding the volcano's current condition. He stated that morphologically, the mountain's height is currently recorded at around 157 meters above sea level (masl), well below its 2018 state. This indicates that the potential risk of landslides triggering a tsunami tends to be lower compared to the past.
Nevertheless, monitors still emphasize vigilance regarding the threat of volcanic ashfall if the wind blows inland. The public is urged to always keep masks ready as a precaution and not be swayed by unverified information. People are asked to refer to official communication channels from relevant agencies such as the BPBD or monitoring post personnel to prevent panic in the public sphere.
Chief Executive of BPBD South Lampung, Maturidi, emphasized that the current eruption is a natural mechanism of the volcano to release energy. Although considered an energy release phase, the local government continues to conduct comprehensive checks on disaster infrastructure, including inspecting evacuation routes, the readiness of assembly points, and other supporting facilities in every sub-district and village along the coast.
Solid coordination between sub-district governments, villages, and the Sub-district Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimcam) is key to building community resilience. The South Lampung Regency Government is committed to continuously monitoring the situation intensively and ensuring that all regional elements are prepared to act quickly and appropriately should there be a change in volcanic activity status in the future.
