The Mimika Regency Government is taking proactive steps to ensure the safety of student athletes competing in the 2026 Multi-Event and Single Event. Through the Department of Youth and Sports (Dispora), all participants from elementary to high school/vocational school (SD to SMA/SMK) levels in the region are now officially registered as members of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.
The symbolic handover of the membership was carried out directly by the Regent of Mimika, Johanes Rettob, along with the Head of Mimika Dispora, Yohanis M. Yanwarin, at the Timika Futsal Arena (GOR Futsal). This step is a concrete realization of the local government's concern for mitigating the risk of accidents that may occur during the sports events.
Through this program, student athletes receive access to social security protection in the form of Work Accident Insurance (JKK) and Death Insurance (JKM). The assurance of this protection is expected to provide a sense of security, allowing participants to give their best on the field with full focus, without worrying about risks that may arise.
The Head of the Papua Mimika Branch of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, Andhika Catur Putra, highly appreciated the initiative taken by the Mimika Regency Government. He evaluated that this policy is a crucial investment in human resource development in the sports field, while also serving as a model that should be followed by other event organizers.
The synergy between the Mimika Regency Government and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan is expected to not only produce talented, high-achieving athletes, but also build a competition ecosystem that prioritizes social protection. This collaboration will continue to be strengthened as part of the commitment to ensure the safety of the entire community, particularly the youth involved in sports activities in Mimika Regency.
