Mimika Regency has officially kicked off the 2026 student-level sports championship. The lively opening ceremony took place at the Mimika Futsal Stadium, located on the SP2-SP5 Main Road area, marking an important milestone for the development of young talent in the region on Wednesday (8/7/2026).
Organized by the Youth and Sports Department (Dispora) of Mimika Regency, the championship features a series of multi-event and single-event competitions. This initiative is designed as a competitive platform for students to hone their physical and mental skills in the contested sports disciplines.
The local government, through Dispora Mimika, emphasized that this tournament is part of a systematic effort to map and develop athletes from an early age. Through this event, it is hoped that promising athletes will emerge to bring honor to Mimika and Papua Province on both national and international sports stages.
The event received great enthusiasm from students across Mimika. In addition to serving as a competitive arena, the championship acts as a platform to strengthen character and sportsmanship among the younger generation through the world of sports.
