The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) of the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has reaffirmed that the status of Mount Anak Krakatau, located in the Sunda Strait, remains at Level III or Alert. The public and tourists are urged to remain vigilant as the volcano's volcanic activity continues to show significant dynamics.
Based on observation reports from officers on duty on Wednesday (8/7/2026), visual activity showed smoke emissions from the active crater reaching heights of 10 to 100 meters above the peak. The smoke was observed to be white with moderate to thick intensity, under relatively weak pressure.
In addition to visual activity, seismograph instruments also recorded seismic activity in the form of continuous tremor or microtremor. These vibrations are indicated to be the result of magma or fluid movement within the earth, with a dominant recorded amplitude of 5 millimeters.
Although meteorological conditions around the volcano were observed to be clear, with average air temperatures ranging from 27 to 32 degrees Celsius and calm surrounding waters, authorities are not taking any risks. The Geological Agency has strictly issued a recommendation prohibiting the public, visitors, and climbers from conducting activities within a three-kilometer radius of the active crater's center.
This mitigation measure is taken to minimize the potential risk of an eruption that could occur at any time. PVMBG continues to intensively monitor the latest developments and will provide regular updates to the public.
