The office of the Regional Representative Council (DPRD) of Langkat Regency was stormed by a crowd from the Langkat Satu Youth Student Alliance on Tuesday (20/7). The demonstrators demanded decisive action in the form of closing and dismantling the Blue Night nightclub operating in Emplasmen Village, Sei Bingai District. The entertainment venue is deemed to be causing public unrest among local residents due to allegations of drug trafficking and immoral activities.
Representatives of the crowd were then directly received by the Chairperson of the Langkat DPRD, Sribana PA, accompanied by the Deputy Chairperson of the DPRD, Romelta. During the meeting, which took place in a conducive atmosphere, the students urged the local government to immediately issue a Third Warning Letter (SP3) and not delay the execution process of the nightclub.
Responding to these aspirations, Sribana emphasized that the legislature shares the same vision as the public in eradicating drugs and enforcing regional regulations. However, she reminded that all enforcement procedures must remain within the applicable legal corridors and be immediately coordinated with the Government of North Sumatra Province as the holder of the business licensing authority.
In addition to focusing on the Blue Night nightclub, several legislators present also proposed a broader step. They requested the Langkat Regency Government to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of all nightlife venues (THM) operating in the region, in order to minimize negative social impacts, particularly for the younger generation in Langkat Regency.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Langkat Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), Dameka Putra Singarimbun, explained that his side had taken the necessary administrative steps. The Langkat Regency Government has reportedly sent a letter to the North Sumatra Provincial Government to process the operational license status of the entertainment venue in question.
