National political dynamics have heated up again following demands from ruling coalition parties toward the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP). Politician Irma Suryani Chaniago from the Nasdem Party and Deputy Chairman of the Golkar Party Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tanjung publicly requested PDIP to be more transparent and decisive in establishing its political line under the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
Irma Suryani Chaniago assessed that PDIP's current political position appears ambiguous, calling it an "indecisive" state in a presidential system. According to Irma, PDIP should choose to either become an opposition party bold enough to offer frontal criticism or become a truly solution-oriented balancing force. She stressed that as a major party, PDIP plays a vital role in democracy, but an ambiguous stance risks confusing the public and is ineffective in exerting control over government policies, such as the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program.
On the other hand, Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tanjung of the Golkar Party viewed that PDIP actually already has a foundation to remain outside the government. Nevertheless, Doli highlighted the need for consistency among the party's elites, particularly regarding the role of the Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), who is perceived as less vocal in overseeing policy. Doli emphasized that coalition parties do not intend to impose their will, but hope that the mechanism of criticism continues to be conducted responsibly without creating unnecessary uproar.
Responding to these calls, PDIP through DPP Chairman Deddy Yevri Sitorus dismissed allegations that his party was maneuvering behind student demonstrations. Instead, he pointed out anxiety within the ruling coalition, which he viewed as inelegant in responding to political dynamics. Echoing this sentiment, Djarot Saiful Hidayat added a jab at parties that previously opposed the current leadership but ultimately chose to join the ruling coalition.
This debate reflects the complexity of relationships between political parties in Indonesia in managing the function of *checks and balances*. While PDIP insists on its stance as an independent balancing force, the ruling coalition continues to urge clarity of position to ensure national policy stability remains intact amid economic challenges that require synergy from all elements of the nation.
