The rapid acceleration of artificial intelligence (AI) has cemented the technology sector as the primary driver of global wealth creation. According to the latest data from the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, the tech industry now dominates the list of individuals with the most assets in the world, displacing other conventional sectors.
Data shows that as many as 97 out of the 500 richest people in the world, or about 19.4 percent, come from a tech industry background. Collectively, their wealth reaches a staggering US$4.54 trillion, a figure that almost equals the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Germany, Europe's largest economy.
This dominant position is visible not only in quantity but also at the very top. Eight of the ten richest people on Earth today are key players in the tech industry, including big names such as Elon Musk, Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, and Jeff Bezos. This trend is consistent up to the top 100 level, where technology is the sector with the highest number of billionaires compared to the financial, manufacturing, or energy sectors.
Below the technology sector, the financial industry ranks second with 77 billionaires, followed by the manufacturing and logistics sector with 62 people. Meanwhile, the consumer goods and energy sectors contribute 35 and 28 individuals to the list, respectively. The presence of new faces like Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang in the elite ranks further highlights that digital innovation remains the primary driver of wealth growth in the modern era.
