Students from the Environmental Thematic Student Community Service (KKN) Group 19 of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) initiated a waste management education program in Gunung Antasari Village, Simpang Empat District, Tanah Bumbu Regency. This concrete step was taken to foster ecological awareness among local residents in a sustainable manner.
Coordinator of ULM KKN Group 19, Ahmad Fadhil Azhim, explained that the main focus of this program is not just to provide theory, but also to train residents directly. The goal is for the community to be able to sort and process household waste independently right from the source.
This educational movement targets various levels of society in stages. Starting from socialization on waste sorting to dozens of students at SDN 4 Tungkaran Pangeran, to interactive meetings with residents in several Neighborhood Associations (RT) and local children's communities to foster environmental care from an early age.
In addition to theoretical education, the students also practiced processing organic waste into valuable products. Residents were taught techniques for making maggot cultivation media, producing compost and liquid organic fertilizer (POC), to mixing eco-enzyme multipurpose liquid from kitchen waste.
The Head of Gunung Antasari Village, Saprullah, expressed deep appreciation for the dedication of the ULM KKN students. According to him, this training program is highly relevant to the village's needs to create a cleaner, healthier residential area, while also potentially increasing the economic value of waste processing products.
This series of KKN programs also includes an agenda to make plant pots from ecobricks at a local vocational high school (SMK). Through this concrete action, it is hoped that a culture of clean living and recycling utilization can continue to take root among the people of Gunung Antasari Village.
