SAMARINDA – In an effort to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining health from an early age, the East Kalimantan Women's Organization Cooperation Body (BKOW) in collaboration with the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) Samarinda Branch held free health screening services. The event, which took place on Saturday (July 25, 2026) at the BKOW Kaltim Secretariat, also partnered with the Juanda Community Health Center (Puskesmas) and Bengkuring Community Health Center (Puskesmas) to target women in the city of Samarinda (Kota Tepian).

A total of 120 participants representing 43 women's organizations under the auspices of BKOW Kaltim enthusiastically participated in the event. In addition to physical examinations, the main agenda of this activity focused on education and early detection of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) that often threaten urban communities, such as hypertension and diabetes mellitus.

In the educational session, dr. Syifa Mahmud Syukran Akbar, Sp.JP, FIHA, AIPO-K, was present as the keynote speaker to explain NCD risk factors and preventive steps to avoid serious complications. The interactive discussion, moderated by Dr. Hj. Diah Riyani, S.Pd., M.Pd., was utilized by the participants to consult directly regarding their various health complaints.

In addition to receiving theoretical knowledge, participants also immediately received free screening services including blood pressure and blood sugar checks. The test results were evaluated on the spot by a joint medical team, allowing participants to receive recommendations or further medical referrals if any health issues were indicated.

The Second Chair of BKOW Kaltim and Chairperson of the Committee, dr. Hj. Padilah Rante Runa, M.Si, MARS, emphasized that this activity is a concrete manifestation of care for women's health as the pillar of the family. BKOW Kaltim hopes that the synergy with health professional organizations such as IDI can continue to strengthen promotive and preventive programs in East Kalimantan.
