The Sidoarjo Regency Government officially presented awards (rewards) to 1,940 high-achieving athletes who won medals at the 2026 Sidoarjo Regency Sports Week (Porkab). This appreciation was handed over directly at the Pendopo Delta Wibawa on Saturday (25/7/2026) as a form of the regional government's commitment to nurturing local sports talent.
The Regent of Sidoarjo, Subandi, emphasized that this award is not merely ceremonial, but a real expression of appreciation for the hard work of the athletes, coaches, and the full support of parents. This step is expected to boost the athletes' motivation to achieve even greater success, especially in the upcoming 2027 East Java Provincial Sports Week (Porprov Jatim).
As a concrete form of government support, Subandi announced plans to increase the bonus for gold medalists in the upcoming Porprov Jatim, from IDR 45 million to a range of IDR 50 million to IDR 60 million. Not only that, athletes who fight for Sidoarjo's name will also receive health insurance through BPJS Kesehatan integrated with hospitals throughout the regency, as well as easier access to public schools through achievement-based admission pathways.
Meanwhile, the Acting Chairperson of KONI Sidoarjo, Imam Purwanto, explained that Porkab 2026 featured 52 sports branches with a total of 580 events. As a result, 1,940 winning athletes were selected, including several outstanding athletes who successfully bagged up to seven medals.
Imam added that Porkab is the foundation of long-term development. With thorough preparation and high discipline from an early stage, KONI Sidoarjo targets the Sidoarjo contingent to win the general champion title or at least secure the runner-up position in the 2027 East Java Porprov.
