The Sawangan area in Depok, West Java, is now officially home to a new, modern sports center of international scale. The General Chairman of the Central National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI), Retired Lieutenant General Marciano Norman, officially inaugurated the opening of Athlon Arena Nusantara on Saturday (July 25, 2026) as a strategic step to strengthen national athlete development.
This state-of-the-art sports facility is designed to integrate sport science with world-class infrastructure. Currently, Athlon Arena Nusantara provides facilities for soccer, gymnastics, and aquatics. In the future, the sports complex will be expanded to include facilities for badminton, basketball, tennis, pickleball, as well as a Hyrox physical endurance training arena.
Marciano Norman highly appreciated the collaboration between the government, sports organizations, and private entities like PT Bakrieland Development Tbk. He emphasized that the presence of gymnastics and aquatics facilities is crucial, as both sports are key pillars for winning medals in the Olympic Games. According to him, structured training from an early age is the primary key to producing high-achieving athletes.
Echoing KONI's sentiments, Deputy IV of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) RI, Teuku Arlan Perkasa Lukman, stated that Athlon Arena Nusantara serves a dual role. In addition to supporting the achievements of elite athletes, this facility is also open to the general public to promote a healthy lifestyle and strengthen an inclusive national sports industry ecosystem.
President Director of PT Bakrieland Development Tbk., Resza Adikreshna, reaffirmed his commitment to restoring the area's legacy as a breeding ground for athletes. This location is historically familiar with the country's sports world, having once served as a training center for the Persija Jakarta football club before transforming into an integrated modern sports area.
