The joint SAR team has finally found two hikers who were previously reported missing on Mount Piramid, Curahdami District, Bondowoso Regency, East Java. Both victims were found dead at the bottom of a ravine on Tuesday (4/8/2026) afternoon.
The identities of the two victims were confirmed as Maliya Finda (51), a tourist from Wonokromo, Surabaya, and Irfan Nasrul Laili (35), a local guide from Wonosari District, Bondowoso. Their bodies were found at the bottom of a steep cliff about 60 meters deep with a slope of up to 40 degrees.
Jember SAR Post Coordinator, Jefriyanzah, explained that the location where the victims' bodies were found was about 170 meters from the point where the incident was reported. The intensive search process carried out by the rescue team finally bore fruit at around 12:13 WIB after combing the steep cliff.
Although the victims' bodies have been located, the evacuation efforts had to be temporarily halted at 18:00 WIB. The extremely steep terrain, narrow space for movement, and fading light conditions were the main reasons for the suspension, in order to ensure the safety of the rescue personnel.
The process of recovering the victims' bodies is scheduled to resume on Wednesday (5/8/2026) morning. This large-scale search and rescue operation involves collaboration from various parties, including the Jember SAR Post, Banyuwangi SAR Office, BPBD, TNI-Polri, Brimob, PMI, the guides association (APGI), Wanadri, and the local community.
