Two teenagers from Krinjing Village, Watumalang District, Wonosobo Regency, namely Arifin Nurohmat (18) and Yufaidin (15), were finally found dead. They were discovered in a valley area near Curug Tiga, Mount Bismo, on Sunday (12/7/2026), ending a search that had been ongoing for nearly two weeks.
The discovery was unexpected, occurring exactly one day after the official search and rescue (SAR) operation was closed by local authorities. Head of Watumalang District, Arief Hardiyanto, revealed that the joint SAR operation, which originally ran for seven days and was extended by three days, had been halted on Saturday (11/7/2026) as the search yielded no results.
A breakthrough came when the Wanadri team from Bandung, along with local residents, conducted an independent sweep of the Curug Tiga area. Around 1:00 PM WIB, they found the two victims at the bottom of a valley in terrain that was extremely difficult to access. The discovery site, located at the bottom of a ravine over 284 meters deep, forced rescuers to work extra hard.
Wonosobo SAR Post Rescuer, Ardi Tyas Sasongko, explained that the evacuation process was conducted using specialized equipment. Given the extreme steepness of the terrain, it was impossible for the team to lift the victims manually. The joint SAR team was immediately redeployed to the location to evacuate the bodies so they could be handed over to their families.
