The evacuation of a hiker from Bekasi on Mount Gede Pangrango took a dramatic turn after he reportedly suffered deteriorating physical condition. The hiker, identified as Roby, was reportedly unable to continue his journey due to severe leg cramps while near Post 3 Buntut Lutung on Sunday (28/6/2026).
Volunteers on duty had to work extra hard due to limited access and the hiker's physical condition. In circulating video footage, the rescue team appeared to use an improvised stretcher made of a sarong tied to two wooden poles to evacuate the hiker to a safe point.
Ali, one of the volunteers involved in the rescue operation, explained that his team moved immediately after receiving a report of a hiker experiencing numbness. It took the team about six hours to ensure the victim reached a safe location for further medical treatment.
On the other hand, Mount Gede Pangrango National Park Management, through spokesperson Agus Deni, stated that their agency is still investigating the details of the incident. National park authorities are conducting field verifications, including confirming whether the hiker had an official permit for the climb.
