Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki, located in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, showed significant volcanic activity again on Sunday (5/7/2026) morning. The eruption, which occurred at approximately 07:04 Central Indonesia Time (WITA), spewed an ash column 1,400 meters above the peak, reaching 2,984 meters above sea level.
According to a report from Bramantya Aji Putra M, an officer at the Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki Observation Post, the eruption was recorded on the seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 47.3 millimeters and a duration of around 1 minute and 14 seconds. The observed ash column appeared thick and grey, drifting north to northeast.
Currently, the volcano's alert status remains at Level III (Siaga/Alert). Residents and tourists are urged to strictly observe the 5-kilometer exclusion zone radius from the eruption epicenter. Additionally, the public is advised not to believe unverified rumors and to rely solely on official guidance from the East Flores Regency Government.
Observers also issued an early warning regarding potential rain-triggered lahar mudflows, especially for settlements along rivers originating from the mountain's summit, such as the areas of Dulipali, Nobo, and Hokeng Jaya. Communities affected by ashfall are required to wear protective masks to prevent respiratory issues caused by exposure to volcanic material.
