Mount Semeru, located on the border of Lumajang and Malang regencies, East Java, again showed volcanic activity in the form of an eruption on Tuesday (30/6/2026) afternoon. Based on monitoring data, the eruption spewed an ash column reaching a height of around 900 meters above the peak.
To date, authorities continue to closely monitor the activity of the highest mountain on Java Island. The public and hikers are urged to always comply with official recommendations from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) to anticipate potential hazards from this volcanic activity.
Local authorities have not yet provided further details regarding the impact of the eruption on residential settlements around the mountain slopes. However, visual and instrumental monitoring continues to be enhanced to ensure the safety of the public in disaster-prone zones.
