Mount Semeru, located in East Java, showed volcanic activity again on Wednesday (10/6/2026) morning. Based on monitoring by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), the eruption occurred at exactly 05:35 WIB, spewing an ash column 1,200 meters above the peak, or reaching 4,876 meters above sea level.
In its report, the Semeru Volcano Observation Post explained that the observed ash column was white to gray in color with moderate intensity. The distribution of the volcanic material was observed to be moving towards the north, in line with the visual observations of the team in the field.
Seismogram data recorded that this eruption had a maximum amplitude of 22 mm with a duration of 2 minutes 17 seconds. As of this writing, Mount Semeru's volcanic activity status is still monitored as an ongoing eruption.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (KESDM) through the Geological Agency continues to conduct close monitoring of the volcano's movement. Residents living around the slopes of Mount Semeru are urged to remain vigilant and follow official guidance from the relevant authorities to anticipate the potential hazards of volcanic ash impact.
