Ahead of the 2026-2027 Super League competition, Persebaya Surabaya has begun adopting a data-driven approach through the use of the latest sport science technology. This strategic move was taken as part of the club's efforts to enhance the physical quality of the Bajol Ijo squad, making them more competitive and highly durable on the pitch.
As part of these preparations, all players underwent a series of physical condition tests using an advanced system called VALD Performance. This collaboration between Persebaya and DBL Indonesia enables the coaching staff to obtain in-depth data regarding muscle performance, acceleration, and potential injury risks that players might face before the official season begins.
Persebaya's physical coach, Diogo Carvalho, emphasized that the generated data is crucial for the coaching team. The system specifically measures thigh muscle strength, jumping ability, and balance between the right and left sides of the body. With measurable information, coaches can design more personalized and precise training programs for each athlete.
Persebaya CEO, Azrul Ananda, added that investing in international-standard equipment is part of the club's long-term vision. The use of technology commonly utilized by elite European clubs is expected to serve as a strong foundation for Persebaya in maintaining consistent player performance throughout a long and high-pressure season.
The implemented devices include Forcedecks, Forceframe, Nordbord, Human Trak, and Smartspeed technologies. Each tool serves a specific function, ranging from monitoring movement quality during landings to testing hamstring strength and player speed capacity. This innovation positions Persebaya as one of the pioneer clubs in Indonesia integrating comprehensive scientific data into professional football training systems.
