The National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) Aceh Province officially stated its stance rejecting dominoes as an official sport branch in its region. This decision was made in compliance with the lex specialis principle or the implementation of Islamic Sharia law in Aceh.
First Vice Chairman for Organization at KONI Aceh, Teuku Rayuan Sukma, explained that even though dominoes has been recognized in the National Work Meeting (Rakernas) of the central KONI, his party remains firm in its position not to inaugurate the branch at the provincial level. This rejection is a response to aspirations from Islamic scholars (ulama) and community leaders who are concerned about the negative stigma associated with dominoes, which is often linked to gambling practices.
Teuku Rayuan emphasized that although personal domino activities among the public are not prohibited, KONI Aceh will not facilitate the formation of a Provincial Executive Board (Pengprov) for the branch. This is done to uphold the norms and moral values cherished by the people of Aceh.
Nevertheless, KONI Aceh does not completely close the door to the future development of this sport branch. They set an absolute condition, requiring the formation of at least 50 percent plus one management boards at the regency/city level, as well as the ability to independently and officially host a Regional Championship (Kejurda) as proof of the organization's seriousness.
