Pariaman City is currently the center of national sports attention with the hosting of the Pariaman Mayor Cup National Roller Skating Championship (Kejurnas). This prestigious event features at least 800 talented athletes from nine provinces across Indonesia, serving as a strategic momentum for the region to boost the sport tourism sector.
The lively opening ceremony was attended by key officials, including the Mayor of Pariaman, Yota Balad, as well as top officials of the West Sumatra National Sports Committee (KONI), namely Hamdanus as General Chairperson, alongside Septri and Dolla Indra. The presence of these figures underscores the importance of the championship for athletic development at the regional level.
On that occasion, General Chairperson of KONI West Sumatra, Hamdanus, put forward an ambitious plan regarding an upcoming sports gala for kindred nations involving eight countries. He challenged Pariaman City's readiness to take on the role of one of the host locations for this international-level event.
Responding to the challenge, the Mayor of Pariaman, Yota Balad, gave a firm and enthusiastic answer. He stated that the Pariaman City Government is fully prepared to facilitate the international event and is even willing to sign a commitment note right then and there, which was met with loud applause from the participants and invited guests.
The strong commitment demonstrated by the local government serves as a positive signal for West Sumatra in its efforts to strengthen its position in the international sports arena. Beyond regional prestige, this championship is expected to serve as an incubator for top-tier athletes ready to achieve prideful accomplishments, both nationally and on the global stage.
