Samarinda stands witness to the beginning of a new era in sports achievement development in East Kalimantan. The General Chairman of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Central Board, Marciano Norman, is scheduled to attend in person to inaugurate the new executive board of East Kalimantan KONI for the 2026–2030 period on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
Confirmation of the presence of the number one person in the national sports governing body was announced by the Chairman of East Kalimantan KONI, Anderiy Syachrum. Following the handover of the official invitation letter in Jakarta, Marciano Norman confirmed that he will lead the sacred ceremony at the East Kalimantan Governor's Office.
The presence of the Central KONI leader is seen as a positive signal for the sports world in Benua Etam. This momentum is considered crucial as East Kalimantan faces a series of prestigious events, including the Beach PON, Martial Arts PON, and hosting the Borneo Games (Sukan Borneo). The synergy between KONI and the East Kalimantan Provincial Government, represented by Governor Rudy Mas'ud and Vice Governor Seno Aji, is expected to become even stronger after this inauguration.
Carrying the theme "A New Chapter of East Kalimantan Sports Development," the new board is committed to reforming the athlete development system from early childhood to preparation for the major goal at the XXII PON 2028. As a strategic step, East Kalimantan KONI has prepared a program titled "Efficiency for Champion" to ensure the effectiveness of athlete training in winning medals at national and regional events.
The inauguration ceremony schedule will also feature demonstrations from several of the region's flagship sports branches. This showcase serves as a symbol of appreciation for athletes and proof of East Kalimantan's mental and physical readiness to face a more competitive and achievement-oriented sporting future.
