The era of vehicle electrification in Indonesia is entering a new chapter with the introduction of BYD's innovative Dual Mode (DM) technology. Embodying the "Electric First" philosophy, this technology places the electric motor as the primary driver of the vehicle, unlike conventional hybrid systems that still rely on the internal combustion engine to support performance. This approach is designed to provide a driving sensation akin to a pure electric vehicle, which is responsive and quiet.

The DM system is developed flexibly to be relevant to various infrastructure conditions and road contours in Indonesia. In urban areas with heavy traffic, the vehicle prioritizes electric power for maximum efficiency. Meanwhile, for long-distance travel, the system will combine the electric motor and the gasoline engine. Furthermore, in remote areas with minimal charging stations, the existence of the gasoline engine guarantees smooth travel without range anxiety.

Technically, this technology is supported by an 18.3 kWh Blade battery capable of traveling up to 100 kilometers in pure electric mode. When combined with the latest generation system, the car is claimed to achieve a fuel efficiency of up to 65 kilometers per liter, with a total driving range exceeding 1,800 kilometers. Internal test results show very economical operational costs, at around Rp300 per kilometer.

BYD presents three variants of Dual Mode technology globally to answer diverse consumer preferences. The DM-i (Dual Mode-intelligent) variant focuses on high efficiency and is the main model now entering the Indonesian market. On the other hand, the DM-p (powerful) type offers high performance with all-wheel drive, generating over 600 hp, while the DM-O type is designed to be tough for tackling extreme off-road terrain.

The presence of this advanced hybrid technology is considered a strategic and realistic step for the Indonesian automotive market.
