The challenge of range anxiety in electric vehicles is often a hurdle for Indonesian consumers who enjoy long-distance travel. Addressing this issue, iCAR capitalized on the momentum of the GIIAS 2026 auto show to introduce the iCAR V27, an SUV featuring an innovative technology called Range-Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV).
Unlike conventional hybrid systems that split propulsion duties between a gasoline engine and an electric motor, the Golden REEV system on the iCAR V27 uses a pure 1.5L Turbo engine solely as a generator. This engine is responsible for producing electricity to charge the battery, while the vehicle's wheels are driven entirely by electric motors. This concept maintains the responsive driving sensation typical of electric vehicles while offering high efficiency.
On paper, the iCAR V27 is claimed to be capable of traveling up to more than 1,200 kilometers (CLTC standard) thanks to the support of a 60-liter fuel tank supplying the generator. Meanwhile, for daily city mobility, this vehicle provides a pure electric (pure EV) mode with a range of around 200 kilometers. Charging is also relatively fast thanks to the DC Fast Charging feature, which can charge the battery from 20 percent to 80 percent in just 30 minutes.
Another advantage of this SUV lies in the Three-Motor True Electric AWD drivetrain system. This system combines a P1 motor generator with electric motors mounted on the front and rear wheels. This configuration ensures that the four-wheel-drive system continues to perform optimally to maintain traction, even when battery power starts running low.
In terms of performance, the collaboration of these electric motors delivers a combined output of 455 PS and a peak torque of 505 Nm, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. Besides being supported by an ideal 50:50 weight distribution, the iCAR V27 is also equipped with nine adaptive driving modes, ranging from ECO, Comfort, Sport, to special off-road modes like Mud and All Terrain.
Product Planning Manager of iCAR Indonesia, Tommy Hermansyah, emphasized that the introduction of this technology is aimed at meeting the needs of the dynamic domestic market. Through the combination of REEV technology and an intelligent AWD system, the iCAR V27 is expected to be a robust SUV solution ready to conquer urban roads and challenging routes in Indonesia with the comfort of an electric vehicle.
