Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, stated that digital transformation in Indonesia must not solely focus on economic progress. At the WSIS Forum 2026, she emphasized the urgency of making the digital space an inclusive ecosystem capable of accommodating the richness of regional languages, local wisdom, and the cultural values of indigenous communities so they remain relevant in the modern era.
According to Meutya, the success of national digitalization is measured by its ability to provide equitable benefits to all levels of society. She views technology as a strategic bridge connecting future innovation with cultural heritage, allowing local communities to grow and adapt without losing their identity.
To realize this vision, Indonesia continues to boost the development of strategic infrastructure, such as the optimization of the Palapa Ring network, the operation of the SATRIA-1 Satellite, and the expansion of 5G access. These steps form the foundation for achieving the national digital economy target, which is projected to reach USD 200 billion by 2030, while also improving the quality of national public services.
In addition to physical development, the government is also paying close attention to the safety and ethics of the digital space. Through the implementation of Government Regulation (PP) No. 17 of 2025 (PP TUNAS), the government is strengthening child protection online. Meutya also emphasized that any future development of artificial intelligence technology must remain human-centric and adhere to ethical and privacy principles to ensure a sustainable transformation.
