Leading artificial intelligence technology company, OpenAI, has officially entered the hardware market with the launch of its first commercial product, named Codex Micro. In collaboration with mechanical keyboard manufacturer Work Louder, this mini control device is priced at US$230 (around IDR 4.1 million) and is specially designed to support the operation of the Codex AI agent in software development.
The Codex Micro, officially coded kbd-1.0-codex-micro, serves as a physical control hub for programmers. The device allows users to monitor interactions with artificial intelligence agents directly. Through integrated RGB light indicators, users can view the real-time performance status of the AI, such as when the system is thinking, running, waiting for instructions, or done processing tasks.
In terms of physical specifications, this mini keyboard features 13 programmable mechanical keys, one touch sensor, a rotary encoder, and a planar joystick. This combination of features is designed to simplify complex programming workflows, from reviewing pull requests and debugging to refactoring code.
To enhance work comfort, Codex Micro also provides dedicated buttons to quickly accept or reject code changes, a push-to-talk feature, and a shortcut button to start a new chat session with the AI. This wireless device supports Bluetooth and USB-C cable connectivity and is fully compatible with macOS and Windows operating systems.
