The 2026/2027 academic year brings significant changes to the implementation of the School Environment Orientation Period (MPLS). The government, through the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen), has officially enacted Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Regulation No. 12 of 2026 as the primary reference for new student orientation. This regulation replaces the old rule, Minister of Education and Culture Regulation No. 18 of 2016, placing a strong emphasis on humanistic, educational, and inclusive activities.
In accordance with the academic calendar, this year's orientation period is scheduled to run for five days during the first week of the new school year. Specifically for the Jakarta area, activities will begin on Monday, July 13, 2026, and run through Friday, July 17, 2026. The central focus of this policy is to eliminate hazing practices and ensure that new students experience a safe and comfortable transition environment.
To implement these rules, several recommendations for creative activities have been outlined for schools to execute. These initiatives include tours of school facilities, team-building games, and inspirational sessions with alumni. Additionally, schools are encouraged to introduce extracurricular activities through live demonstrations and engage students in environmental care projects, such as maintaining the school gardens.
The government stresses that the entire MPLS agenda must reflect educational values that build character. The element of creativity is expected to foster students' enthusiasm for learning right from day one. Any form of intimidation, bullying, or action that degrades the dignity of students is emphasized as a severe violation that must not occur during this year's MPLS events.
