The Samarinda City Government (Pemkot) is evaluating the organizational structure of regional government agencies with a proposal to separate youth, sports, and tourism affairs, which have so far been under the auspices of the Department of Youth, Sports, and Tourism (Disporapar). This step is being taken as a strategic effort to create more specific, focused, and optimal management in each sector, both of which are considered to hold great potential for the region.
Head of the Samarinda City Disporapar, Muslimin, revealed that this restructuring plan has been discussed internally within the government for some time. His department is currently coordinating with the organizational division to prepare a comprehensive study as the basis for making this strategic decision.
"The discourse on separating Disporapar has been going on for quite a while. Currently, we have requested the organizational department to conduct an in-depth study regarding the plan," Muslimin said on Friday (3/7/2026).
According to Muslimin, changes to organizational structure cannot be carried out carelessly. The local government must consider various crucial variables, ranging from regulatory readiness and human resource availability to projections of the budgetary impact that will arise if this separation is realized.
The study currently being prepared will be the main determinant of whether the separation is feasible to implement or not. This process will ensure compliance with all statutory provisions so that the resulting policy yields a positive impact on improving public services and governance in Samarinda City.
