The North Sumatra Provincial Government (Pemprov Sumut) has set an ambitious target in its public health program this year. A total of 7.3 million people, or around 46 percent of the total population, are targeted to receive Free Health Check (CKG) services as a preventive measure against various disease risks.
Head of Public Health at the North Sumatra Health Agency, Hery Valona Bonatua Ambarita, explained that the acceleration of this program is part of the Quick Win Program (PHTC) initiated nationally. This measure aims to ensure that the public gains access to health screenings routinely at least once a year.
As of June 2026, the North Sumatra Health Agency recorded that 3.2 million residents have utilized the service across 619 Community Health Centers (Puskesmas) spread throughout all regencies and cities. This figure shows a positive trend compared to the 2025 achievement of 22.56 percent, which ranked North Sumatra fourth best nationally at the time.
To achieve the 46 percent target before the end of the year, Pemprov Sumut has instructed regency/city governments to optimize CKG service operations in their respective regions. This optimization is expected to accurately map public health conditions, enabling earlier medical intervention before diseases worsen.
The North Sumatra Health Agency encourages all elements of society to be more proactive in visiting nearby health facilities. Early detection is considered the main key to reducing the prevalence of serious diseases and sustainably improving public health quality in North Sumatra.
