Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) has reaffirmed its commitment to creating a resilient entrepreneurial ecosystem by hosting the Alumni Entrepreneur Summit 2026 at the FEB UMS Campus on Saturday (4/7/2026). This meeting serves as an important momentum to foster collaboration among alumni, students, and stakeholders in advancing the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector.
Rector of UMS, Prof. Dr. Harun Joko Prayitno, M.Hum., stressed that university graduates are vital assets serving as economic drivers. He encouraged students and alumni to instill a spirit of perseverance when building businesses from the ground up. According to him, the orientation of the younger generation must shift from merely being job seekers to becoming innovative job creators.
On that occasion, the Deputy for Entrepreneurship at the Indonesian Ministry of MSMEs, M. Riza Damanik, expressed high appreciation for UMS's initiative. Riza highlighted the crucial role of business incubator institutions in mitigating the failure risks of new ventures. According to data, the incubation process has been proven to reduce failure risks by 80 to 90 percent for novice entrepreneurs.
The government is currently encouraging the optimization of 754 incubator institutions across Indonesia, including in Central Java, which holds high growth potential. Riza added that the Ministry of MSMEs is committed to supporting this synergy through various platforms, such as Sapa UMKM, to facilitate access to financing, certification, and technology assistance for young university entrepreneurs.
Through strategic collaboration between academia and the government, UMS is expected to produce more competitive entrepreneurs capable of making real contributions to strengthening the national economy and responding to global market challenges with sustainable innovation.
