President Prabowo Subianto has officially expressed his support for India's plan to establish higher education institutions in Indonesia. This strategic plan focuses on developing academic fields in management and technology, which are expected to drive the quality of human resources in the country.
The statement was delivered directly by President Prabowo during a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (7/7/2026). This cooperation includes the establishment of branches of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and the potential opening of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) as centers of academic excellence for Indonesian students.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that this step was taken to address the challenges of the 21st century, which heavily rely on technological advancements. According to Modi, given that both nations have large and dynamic youth populations, the presence of prestigious campuses like IIM Bangalore in Indonesia is believed to have a broad positive impact on the younger generation in the ASEAN region.
In addition to the physical construction of the campus, the two national leaders also agreed to increase the intensity of student exchanges between Indonesia and India. This synergy is expected to open access to international-quality education and facilitate a more massive knowledge transfer for the younger generation in both countries.
Furthermore, the partnership between Indonesia and India is now expanding to other strategic sectors, including agreements on the development of artificial intelligence (AI), telecommunications, and digital public infrastructure. Both countries are also committed to strengthening the startup ecosystem to accelerate future technological innovations.
