The management of the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) of Southwest Papua Province for the new period has been officially inaugurated. Led directly by Elisa Kambu, the sports governing body of Indonesia's youngest province carries a major mission to reform athlete training patterns to boost achievements at the national level.
General Chairperson of Central KONI, Marciano Norman, expressed high optimism over the inauguration of this management. According to Marciano, the presence of Elisa Kambu, who also serves as a regional head in Southwest Papua, is a distinct advantage because synergy between regional policies and sports programs will run more harmoniously and effectively.
Marciano also reminded of the importance of setting priorities in athlete training. He suggested that KONI Southwest Papua should not split its focus across too many sports branches at once, but rather concentrate fully on leading sports that have real potential to win medals. Cross-sector cooperation, including involving higher education institutions and Forkopimda, is considered crucial for building a solid sports ecosystem.
Responding to this new mandate, Elisa Kambu emphasized his commitment to optimizing sports potential as an instrument for regional promotion. The first step his management will take immediately is to conduct a thorough internal consolidation and draft measurable short- and medium-term work programs.
He hopes that all stakeholders, from sports branch administrators to the wider community, can work together to produce promising young athletes. Through close collaboration, he believes Southwest Papua can compete with other provinces in various prestigious sporting events across the country.
