The Health, Population Control, and Family Planning Agency (Dinkes P2KB) of Gorontalo Province took swift action in response to public concerns regarding the medical waste management system at the Dr. Hasri Ainun Habibie Regional General Hospital (RSUP). This action was implemented through intensive monitoring and evaluation activities led directly by the Head of Dinkes P2KB, Anang S. Otoluwa.
The meeting, which took place in the hospital's hall, was a response to aspirations from the Gorontalo Community Alliance. Anang emphasized that this supervision aims to ensure that all waste management procedures, both solid and liquid, have met national regulatory standards and applicable environmental health guidelines.
During the review, the Dinkes P2KB technical team conducted a thorough audit of the hospital's operational mechanisms, starting from the sorting, storage, transportation, to the destruction processes of medical waste. This step is crucial to guarantee the safety of patients and healthcare workers, as well as to minimize potential negative impacts on surrounding residents and the environmental ecosystem.
As a form of strengthening cross-sector coordination, the hospital management is now required to be more transparent in administrative governance. Every liquid waste management report addressed to the Environmental Agency (DLH) must also include copies to both provincial and district health authorities so that the monitoring process runs synchronously.
Anang gave strict instructions for the hospital to immediately improve the systems that are still considered imperfect. All recommendations from this evaluation are targeted for full implementation by the second week of September 2026 at the latest. He emphasized that waste management is not just an administrative obligation, but a main pillar in maintaining the quality and moral responsibility of healthcare institutions.
