The introduction of this technology marks a new milestone in East Kalimantan's medical landscape, as this facility is the first and only one in the region.
PET-CT Scan technology offers significant advantages compared to conventional scanning methods. By integrating PET capabilities, which monitor cell metabolism, and CT scans, which map organ structures, this device is capable of detecting tissue abnormalities at the cellular level even before physical structural changes occur. This provides medical teams with much higher precision in determining the location, size, and biological activity of cancer.
A Specialist in Nuclear Medicine and Subspecialist in Nuclear Oncology at RSUD AW Sjahranie, dr. Ryan Yudistiro, stated that this innovation is a crucial breakthrough in regional oncology management. The accuracy in cancer staging provided by the PET-CT Scan allows doctors to design more targeted and personalized treatment plans tailored to the patient's medical condition.
