A quick response was shown by the Kalangbret Police, Tulungagung Regency Police, in handling a land fire incident in the Mount Bolo area, Bolorejo Village, Kauman District, on Saturday (4/7/2026) night. The report of hotspots was received by officers at 19:00 WIB, just 15 minutes after the fire was first spotted.
Upon arrival at the location, officers found that the fire had spread to piles of dry teak leaves and flammable cogon grass (alang-alang). A major challenge was faced by the team on the ground because the terrain leading to the fire source was in a hilly area with very steep access roads that could not be traversed by operational vehicles, meaning the extinguishing effort had to be done on foot.
Despite being hindered by the difficult terrain, police personnel and local residents worked hard to extinguish the flames using makeshift equipment. Thanks to this collaboration, the fire was finally brought under control at around 20:48 WIB. Fortunately, this incident resulted in no casualties or significant material losses.
Kalangbret Police Chief, Police Inspector First Class (IPTU) Sugeng Hariyono, explained that his side is currently investigating the exact cause of the fire. However, initial suspicion points to extreme hot weather during the dry season as the main trigger for the rapid spread of fire in the area.
"We urge the public to remain vigilant and avoid activities that could potentially trigger fires, such as burning trash or clearing land by burning during this hot weather. Immediately contact the police or relevant authorities if you find hotspots so that action can be taken as soon as possible," emphasized IPTU Sugeng Hariyono.
